Journeys with God: a biblical curriculum from MEA

Immigration. The word is tossed around and debated in our media, government, classrooms, and churches. These conversations are often loaded with emotion and opinions. What are the basic facts about U.S. immigration? Who are the people involved? What does the Bible have to say to us as Christians about immigration? What role might we fill as Anabaptists within this age-old challenge?
These questions and more are unpacked in the Bible study, Radical Hospitality: R esponding to the issue of immigration. This free resource is specifically designed to be flexible and accessible; all materials are available below for download and the curriculum can be customized to meet your group’s needs. The core curriculum is based on five videos (each 15-20 min.) and an accompanying Resource Guide, which includes tips for facilitating a successful experience, discussion questions, and a robust list of support materials.
This resource is ideal for adult Sunday School classes, small fellowship groups, weekend adult Bible Schools, and congregational in-services. The curriculum can be customized to be 6 to 13 weeks long, depending on your group’s preference. Check out the Radical Hospitality six-week core curriculum and download the Bible study guide.
Global Youth Summit Grant
An opportunity for young adults, ages 18-30
Next summer will be rich with opportunities to engage our brothers and sisters in Christ! Central District Conference's annual meeting is being moved up to June 11-13, and will be hosted by the Goshen/Elkhart CDC congregations. The Annual Meeting will take place on the campus of Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana. Mennonite Church USA's biennial convention is in Kansas City, Missouri from June 30-July 5. And then, Mennonite World Conference is in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania from July 21-26. For those of us who enjoy fellowship with the wider church, it's going to be a summer full of rich interactions! Congregations should have received packets with information about Mennonite World Conference, and you can also look here: www.mwc-cmm.org.
CDC is hoping to encourage participation in MWC by sponsoring young adults to attend the Global Youth Summit (GYS). Just prior to MWC Assembly, GYS, a gathering of young adults, ages 18-30, at nearby Messiah College from July 17-19, is described by MWC as "An oasis for young leaders of the church," meeting together around the theme, "Called to Share: My Gifts, Our Gifts." Information and registration is here: www.mwc-cmm.org/gys.
In an effort to encourage young adults to attend the GYS, CDC is offering a $500 grant to six (6) young adults, ages 18-30. Selections will be based on achieving a balance of ethnic diversity, gender, and geography. Expectations for grant recipients include:
For details and to apply for the grant, download an application form and send it to Central District Conference, 1015 Division St, Goshen, IN 46528. Deadline to apply is December 31, 2014.
Helping Recent Immigrants Attend MWC Assembly
CDC Matching Funds Available
MWC has also invited area conferences to help with registration costs for recent immigrants who would like to attend MWC Assembly, but are not able to pay the full cost. The full registration cost is $575, which includes meals. MWC will subsidize $150 of this cost, and will help attendees find lodging in homes for only $25/night. MWC is inviting conferences to also offer $150, so that the registration cost for the person attending is only $275.
Because CDC does not have many primarily immigrant congregations, CDC is inviting congregations to consider whether there are such congregations in their area, even if they are not part of CDC. If a CDC congregation is able to work with an immigrant congregation to help send some of their community to MWC Assembly, paying at least $50 per person to help them with that, CDC will match $100 per registrant. If interested, please contact the conference office at 800.662.2264 or
